Devon stands with Indigenous Peoples #EveryChildMatters

For July 1st, the Town of Devon issues this statement:

Coming up to 154 years, Canada has celebrated July 1st as a National holiday, the creation of the Dominion of Canada known as Canada Day.  We acknowledge that the celebration of the dominion as a Crown-entity is also a celebration rooted in colonialism.  We acknowledge the First Peoples who come from the land that we currently call Canada, and we acknowledge the atrocities that have been caused as a direct result of colonial policy, and church and state institutions.

  • Follow all notices regarding physical distancing as indicated by the Government of Alberta.

Fireworks - Postponed to future date

In respect for the hundreds of children and families who have been impacted by the Indian Residential School System and the increasing number of children being recovered on residential school sites across Canada, we have postponed our fireworks display originally planned for Canada Day to a future date that will be determined later this year.
