2021 Municipal Election

The Town of Devon will be holding a municipal election on Monday, October 18, 2021 to elect one (1) Mayor and six (6) Councillors.

Election Day

The Town of Devon Municipal Election is scheduled for:

Date: Monday, October 18, 2021
Time: 10 a.m. - 8 p.m.
Place: Devon Community Centre, 20 Haven Ave, Devon, AB T9G 2B9.

Health and safety while voting

The health and safety of both voters and election workers is our top priority during the voting process and all election workers will be wearing masks at the Devon Community Centre.

All voters are also required to follow COVID-19 safety guidelines during the voting process including:

  • wearing a mask
  • sanitizing
  • doing your best to practice physical distancing (2m)

The Restrictions Exemption Program will not impact the voting process and proof of vaccination will not be required to enter the Devon Community Centre to vote at Advance Polls or on Election Day.

Devon Municipal Candidates Public Forum

The Devon & District Chamber of Commerce is proud to be hosting the 2021 Devon Municipal Candidates Public Forum as a non-partisan organization to support the upcoming municipal election on Oct. 18. All municipal candidates are invited to participate in the public forum as questions from the community are asked to help voters gain an informed opinion of who they would like to support on election day.

Date: Monday, Oct. 4, 2021
Time: 6-9:15 p.m. (6-8 p.m. for Councillor candidates, 8-9:15 p.m. for Mayor candidates)
Place: Online via Zoom

Advance Polls

Advance Voting will be held at the Devon Community Centre, 20 Haven Ave, Devon, AB T9G 2B9 as follows:

  • Wednesday, October 6, 2021 - 5-8 p.m.
  • Wednesday, October 13, 2021 - 5-8 p.m.
  • Thursday, October 14, 2021 - 5-8 p.m.
  • Saturday, October 16, 2021 - 12-5 p.m.

Voter Eligibility

Individuals can vote in the Town of Devon’s municipal election if they:

  • are at least 18 years old;
  • are a Canadian citizen;
  • are a resident of the Town of Devon on Election Day (October 18, 2021)

Individuals who own property or a business in Devon, but are not residents are not permitted to vote.

If a candidate, a candidate’s official agent, or a scrutineer believes a voter is not eligible to vote, an objection will be noted on the voting register.

Special Ballots

There will be no Institutional Voting due the uncertainty of COVID-19 pandemic however, the option of a Special Ballot will be available. The Town has been in contact with Discovery Place where Institutional Voting would take place and arrangements have been made to facilitate transportation through the Town's bus for those at the facility who would like to vote in person in the municipal election.

Special Ballots are available to those that are unable to vote at an Advance Vote or at the voting station on Election Day due to physical incapacity, absence from the local jurisdiction, being a Returning Officer, Deputy Returning Officer, Constable, Candidate or Agent.

School Trustee Election

The Black Gold & Evergreen Catholic Separate School Division Trustee election is also on the ballot. The Evergreen Schol Division has been acclaimed, however 3 candidates are running to serve as Ward 2 Black Gold School Division Trustee.

Voter Identification Information

In order to vote in the 2021 Devon Municipal Election, voters are required to provide one piece of identification that establishes both their name and current residential address, as well as make a statement in the presence of an election officer at the voting station.

Any of the following documents that contain BOTH YOUR NAME AND ADDRESS will be accepted as valid proof of identification:

  • Photo identification issued by a Canadian government or agency, whether federal, provincial or local or an agency of that government, that contains a photograph of the elector and their name and current address.
  • Alberta Operator’s (Driver’s) License
  • Alberta Identification Card
  • Bank/credit card statement or personal cheque
  • Correspondence issued by a school, college or university
  • Government cheque or cheque stub
  • Income or property tax assessment notice
  • Utility bill (for example, telephone, public utilities commission, television, hydro, gas or water).
  • Letter from a public curator, public guardian or public trustee.
