What is FCSS?
FCSS or Family and Community Support Services is a predominantly preventative support service for all members of the community.
Through this department we strive to provide the community with access to services and programs aimed at improving life skills, family counselling, seniors assistance and support for children and youth when it is most needed and guidance in a non-judgemental environment.
The FCSS philosophy is based on a belief that self-help contributes to a sense of integrity, self worth and independence. Programs developed are intended to help individuals in their community to adopt healthy lifestyles, thereby improving the quality of life and building the capacity to prevent and/or deal with crisis situations should they arise.
What is the Purpose of the Board?
Board members must have or be willing to gain a working knowledge of the FCSS Act and the parameters of which programs are provided as well as a special interest in the development of preventative social services. It is important that board members ensure that Devon adheres to the guidelines and utilizes funds accordingly. It will also be a requirement to provide recommendations on whether the Town can offer a service that is funded from other sources other than that which is proivded under the Provincial agreement.
This NEW board has been created to specifically assist in advising on social issues which will help Council in the promotion of Devon's wellbeing and advise on how matters may be addressed. These include, but are not limited to;
Services provided through or being recommended for FCSS department;
Assisting Administration in the development of initiatives (e.g. the Youth Strategy Plan), and;
Gathering public input through open houses, events and presentations etc.
To apply for this board you must be willing to provide a criminal record check. This can be done at most police stations, such as the Devon RCMP detachment. To assit you a letter will be issued that will identify you as a volunteer for Devon so that you can get the check processed without charge. Please note that not all police stations will accept a Devon volunteer letter so we recommend that you take it to the Devon depatchment for processing.
How Do I Apply?
FCSS Board Applications have now closed. Board Applications will be advertised annually or as required.
